Curiosity is your superpower!

Curiosity has been the word of my week.

It’s been mentioned a lot!

And its made me think that curiosity is one of the behaviours that takes you from average to super hero level future proof.

It’s the super power that transports you into the high performance realm.

It’s the magic key to functioning on a higher level and it will spark all sorts of dangerous ideas!

And as we already know, ideas and innovation are dangerous…we definitely don’t want to encourage that!

But in case you do want to dabble with danger then here are a few ways you can spark your curiosity:

1.       Read a book. I give you all the genius ideas, I know! But really, some of this stuff is quite simple. Read. Learn.

2.       Ask Why. Embrace your inner toddler and keep asking until someone says ‘I don’t know’. This is the point where you know you have struck gold. If there is something happening in your team/organisation and no one can give you a good reason why you are doing it then I would argue it should be stopped. Stopping things is where the magic lies as it opens the door for new sparkly things which are more likely to bring joy (and effectiveness and performance and whatever professional business term you choose).

3.       Then ask Why again. Seriously, keep asking Why! Ask the difficult questions and if anyone says ‘because we’ve always done it that way’ then you win my business bingo prize! That right there is the one statement I hate. It is not an answer it’s an excuse for lack of thought and direction.

4.       Raise your gaze. How are other people doing things? Look around, talk to people, copy the best ones. You don’t have to have all the good ideas yourself, if someone else had a good idea then copy it!

5.       Role model it. There is no point just being curious all on your own. Role model it, talk about it, bore people with your curiosity until they join your curiosity club. Seriously that sounds like a good club…maybe there’s an idea there!

Future proof yourself and stand out from the crowd by embracing your curiosity.

Be curious about the people you meet.

Be curious about processes you use.

Be curious about the challenges you face.

Be curious.

Go do it, and report back!
